Accuser Addresses Cosby Directly From Witness Stand
Cosby’s accuser is a woman named Andrea Constand, and she’s expected to take the stand to testify as she did in the first trial. “I knew he could ruin my career if I ever came out and said something against him”, she added. “I remember something warm hitting my leg”, she said.
Janice Baker-Kinney will return to the witness stand on Thursday after punctuating her first two hours of testimony at Cosby’s sexual assault retrial in suburban Philadelphia with a firm declaration: “I was raped”.
“He was lonely and troubled and he made a awful mistake confiding in her what was going on his life”, Mesereau said.
“I don’t want this to happen to anyone else”, she later sobbed.
Thomas is one of five additional accusers who say the comedian drugged and attacked them long before he met Constand, a former Temple University women’s basketball administrator who alleges Cosby gave her pills and then violated her in 2004. She denied using drugs during the time she said Cosby assaulted her, other than the pills she said he gave her.
Constand, 45, said that at one point during the evening in question, Cosby inserted his fingers into her vagina and placed her hand on his penis.
“I trusted him because he’s ‘America’s Dad, ‘” Lublin said.
Thomas testified Tuesday that, strangely incapacitated by a single sip of wine from Cosby, she found herself waxing in and out of consciousness during a 1984 trip to Reno for acting lessons with him.
Over dinner he allegedly handed her a blue pill she thought would ease menstrual cramps, but which left her feeling “out of it” before Cosby raped her, leaving her “humiliated”.
“I got a little woozy, and he said, ‘You need to lay down, ‘ ” Lasha testified.
She rejected a defense lawyer’s insinuation that she would do anything to help the comedian’s chief accuser, Andrea Constand.
Femen leader, Inna Shevchenko, said that Rochelle was defending the alleged victims and called her protest the group’s “contribution to the global revolt launched by #MeToo”. No details about the circumstances of the false statement, made my Chelan Lasha, were revealed in court filings. However, on January 13, 2005, Constand told her mother about the alleged incident after a flashback. She only remembers fragments from the next four days, but does remember “waking up in bed”, she told the courtroom, and finding Cosby naked beside her, forcing himself into her. “And I got there … and actually I was surprised at the lack of the amount of people”.
“He said he was looking forward to giving back to the industry that has given him so much”, she told the jury in Norristown, Pa.
His attack on Constand was a striking departure from the more subdued tone that Cosby’s previous lawyer took at the first trial, which ended in a hung jury last spring.
The first witness in the case was Dr. Barbara Ziv, a forensic psychiatrist who testified about how sexual assault victims behave. However, O’Neill did chastise Lasha for her outburst and said he would remind other witnesses that they can not speak to anyone in the courtroom during their testimonies from now on. Constand will take the stand over the course of the trial, as well as four other accusers of the almost 60 women who have come out with allegations against the comedian.
Dickinson, the only celebrity accuser to testify against Cosby, parried with defense attorneys who seized on discrepancies between her testimony Thursday and what she wrote about their encounter in her 2002 autobiography. “He was a married man, and I absolutely showed no interest in him”.
The judge ruled that Cosby’s lawyers can bring it up.
Baker-Kinney has been unflappable under cross-examination, calling out Cosby lawyer Tom Mesereau for rolling his eyes at her and chiding the veteran defense attorney after she said he attempted to twist what she said about being assaulted.
After a couple more follow-ups about lawsuits – Constand has none pending against Cosby – Feden then asked why Constand was here.
Numerous women who have accused Cosby likely would have filed their own lawsuits had it not been for the statute of limitations imposed on their particular cases.
