Acer Chromebook R11 features 360 hinge design for $299
Acer unveiled the new laptop at the IFA 2015 consumer electronics show taking place in Berlin this week. The Chromebook R 11’s “patented dual-torque hinge” allows the screen to bend back through 360 degrees, allowing it to work in laptop, tablet, tent and stand modes with a mere flick of the wrist. Not only that, you will be pleased as punch to take note that the audio channel’s output will automatically reverse as the display changes its orientation. The model supports both landscape and portrait displays while in tablet mode.
The dual-torque hinge also helps keep the device secure as a user interacts with the touchscreen while it’s in display mode.
As ever, the price is the first thing that catches the eye, and the Chromebook R 11 will launch in the U.S. from $299 come October. The 360-degree range, meanwhile, lets users adjust the screen as needed.
Acer’s Chromebook R11 is the company’s first convertible notebook, with a durable hinge which has the ability to rotate 360-degrees. Plus, the R 11 sports some decent specs.
The convertible notebook is packed with an Intel Celeron processor, super fast 2×2 MIMO 802.11ac wireless connection, USB 3.0 port, 11.6-inch HD touch screen with 1366 x 768 pixel resolution and wide viewing angle, and an HD webcam. They’re created to be used nearly exclusively online with most data and apps residing in the cloud. The devices impresses with its LED-backlit LCD screen that features an integrated 10-point touch, offering several useful and easy gestures like Swipe, Tap, and Pinch to Zoom.
Acer is not a stranger to the Chromebook market and has already added to it in a number of ways. The company held more than 36 percent of Chromebook sales a year ago, according to research firm Gartner Inc.
