The tablet was supposed to be out last week, and Acer showed the thing off at IFA in September. Predator 8 is underpinned by an Atom x7-Z8700 chipset which is based on a 64-bit quad-core CPU made on Intel’s Gen9 graphics architecture, while boasting about an 8-inch IPS LCD screen with Full HD (1080 x 1920) resolution. This is thanks to Acer finally opening up pre-orders on their site. Which is partly the result of smartphones encroaching on tablet territory, due to the general trend of smartphones increasing in size and creating the newly formed phablet market that we now see today. For a few reason Acer installed 2 GB of RAM inside, which might be OK for a tablet but is pointless for solid gaming. Users oc the new tablet can have an experience similar to tapping a physical key of a keyboard or gaming controller, providing a superior mobile gaming experience, according to WCCFtech. That odd design, however, does seem to give it a better grip, at least with two hands. Previously Acer announced that there would be a timed exclusive launch of the tablet on Newegg, but this was set for November 6 and obviously didn’t happen. Its Predator Precision Plus technology gives a bit more sensitivity to the touch screen for better onscreen controls.
The company introduced the tablet this summer, and now it’s available for pre-order for $300 from the Acer Store, Newegg, and TigerDirect, among other places. It is an interesting proposition, though the performance of an Intel Atom x7 for mobile gaming still needs to be put through a thorough test. And that’s for a Wi-Fi model only. No word on whether Acer has plans for a 3G/LTE variant.
