ACHOOS A DAY Doctors baffled by girl who can’t stop sneezing
Katelyn Thornley can’t stop sneezing.
Katelyn Thornley, 12, has been sneezing around 20 times a minute for the past month and has seen six doctors but no one can figure out the cause.
Doctors are baffled by the seventh grader’s mysterious sneezing fits, which only stop when she takes Benadryl and falls asleep, according to Fox26. The condition has now worsened to the point that she can no longer attend school or play the clarinet.
“Even in my dreams, I sneeze”, she said. Her parents say it started more than three weeks ago. “I’m constantly in pain with my abdomen, my legs are hurting because I’ve been weak and I can barely eat”. “I thought it was like, oh, I’m just allergic to something”, she said.
Katelyn’s mother said the condition never went away. “I mean it’s just so rare and hard”. Allergies were ruled out, as was a possible virus. No medication has worked for Thornley.
“Anything you talk to her about that irritates her – you can see it spike and continuous sneezing”, says Thornley’s father. Experts believe it could be a stress-related reaction. He said the sneezing is easy to trigger.
The girl and her family say they cannot wait for specialists to determine what is triggering her sneezing and cure her so that they can return to their usual routine.
