Actor Leslie Odom Jr. to exit hit Broadway show “Hamilton”
Odom’s announcement follows that of show creator and star Lin-Manuel Miranda, who said Thursday that he also would exit the show on July 9. Odom, Jr. will be leaving the show after its evening performance on Saturday, July 9, along with co-star Lin-Manuel Miranda.
Odom says he will always be grateful for the experience. “This thing could be anything, what are we going to make?”
The Hollywood Reporter announced on Sunday that the singer and actor will leave the hit production July 9th.
Actor Leslie Odom, Jr. poses backstage with his award for Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Musical for “Hamilton” during the American Theatre Wing’s 70th annual Tony Awards in NY, U.S., June 12, 2016.
It’s the latest major exit from the show. “I will never forget the people that I’ve met here. I will never forget all of you”, said Odom, who said that the rehearsals were the most exciting part of working on the show.
Just a few weeks ago, Odom scored a Tony win for his portrayal as Burr for the Best actor in a musical.
“This is brilliant material and there are guys that are chomping at the bit to get their hands on this part”, he said. Their work began at New York’s Public Theater way back in January 2015, following a lengthy workshop/rehearsal period. “I’ll let you know if anything changes”.
The actor has said that he wants to focus on his music. Earlier this month, he also released a self-titled album, which shot to the top of iTunes’ jazz charts.
He added, “I would love to be a part of it”. Groff left to record a new Netflix series, “Mindhunter”; Soo will star in a new musical, “Amélie”; and Miranda has multiple projects, including a leading role in a live-action Disney film that will be a sequel to “Mary Poppins”.
