Actor Randy Quaid Held in Vermont on Fugitive Charges
He asked that in the meantime, the Vermont court defer to the bail set in California.
He also lost a bid to have his bond lowered, with Judge Alison Arms telling the embattled star, “I don’t disagree with you that $500,000 is high bail”.
Randy Quaid, the brother of actor Dennis Quaid, is known for the 1973 film “The Last Detail”, “Independence Day“, and the “National Lampoon’s Vacation” franchise, among others. The actor said that being denied permanent residency in Canada was devastating.
The pair skipped several court appearances and went to Canada.
Elsewhere, Quaid has said the whole thing is “a property dispute”.
Randy Quaid and his wife remain behind bars, neither able to post their half million dollars bail.
The arraignment for Evi Quaid took place about 90 minutes before her husband’s scheduled court appearance in adjacent Franklin County on a fugitive charge. After the May arrest, the actor apologized and met the requirement to check in with local officials every two weeks.
At a hearing in 2010, he told a Canadian court he was being targeted by “Hollywood star whackers”, and that eight of his fellow actors had been “murdered in odd, unusual manners”, including Heath Ledger and David Carradine. And I dont believe it would be happening if it werent for the fact that he is a, quote, celebrity, he said. “You can call her whatever you want, but she is my lifeline, and if she wasn’t with me, I don’t know where I’d be”. “I would like to have the issues in Santa Barbara resolved so I can move on with my life”.
Deputy State’s Attorney Patrick Lamb argued Quaid has done nothing to resolve the 5-year-old cases that involve four criminal charges: felony vandalism, unauthorized entry into a dwelling, obstructing police and failing to appear in court while out on bail.
The judge did not rule on Quaid’s possible extradition to California because prosecutors were unable to obtain the necessary legal documents due to the Columbus Day holiday.
