Ben Affleck‘s appearance at the ESPYs on Wednesday was surprising, but not as much as who he presented an award to: Derek Jeter. “There was something about him that made the boos ring a little hollow”. But for now, we are still looking back on the glory days of Jeter’s career – no matter how painful that might be for some fans he left behind.

Acknowledging Jeter’s retirement last year after almost 20 years, he continued: “He broke my heart 100 times, if not more”.

Boston sports fans can be many things, but we know baseball, and we respect those that play the game the way it was meant to be played. “So to you, Derek Jeter, I tip my hat and thank you for every last moment of your incredible career”.

In his first post-split appearance at Comic-Con in San Diego on Saturday, July 11, the actor kept his wedding ring on.
