Actor Terrence Howard takes witness stand in divorce hearing
Both parties are asking for their expected cut with Ghent directly demanding that Fox take out her share from her ex-hubby’s check and send it to her. Howard isn’t having it, though, also demanding that he receive the full amount he’s earned since he believes the settlement agreement is invalid.
Howard says Ghent extorted him to sign a 2012 agreement that gave her spousal support and other financial benefits.
He said his ex-wife Michelle Ghent left him “terrified” after allegedly threatening to release private recordings and medical information in a bid to ruin his career.
In a deposition, Ghent denied she tried to blackmail Howard, her attorneys have said.
Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Thomas Trent Lewis recessed the hearing until Friday morning to determine whether the star of the television series “Empire” can testify about communications he had with his ex-wife while a divorce settlement was being finalized in 2012.
Earlier this week, Howard’s lawyer played a 2011 recording of an emotional phone call between Howard and Ghent.
“There is your naked a- – dancing in the bathroom singing out loud”, she said during the call secretly recorded by Howard. Asked by his attorney whether he considered the payment hush money, Howard responded, “I consider it blood money”.
In the original documents, she claimed she pepper sprayed him because Terrence walked over to a bedside table where he kept a knife which was four to six inches in length, and at that point she claimed the actor knocked her down and kicked her repeatedly in the head.
Howard’s testimony will conclude Monday.
The pair were married in January 2010, and Ghent filed for divorce a year later.
Howard received an Oscar nomination for his starring role in 2005’s “Hustle & Flow”.
