Actors of colour win big at SAG awards
Idris Elba even took home two awards for his work in “Luther” and “Beast of No Nation”.
In the acting honors, Leonardo DiCaprio won the best actor award for his portrayal of fur trapper Hugh Glass in the revenge thriller “The Revenant“.
Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron-starrer “Mad Max: Fury Road”, which is nominated in 10 categories (second highest) at this year’s Oscars, won the award for Outstanding Action Performance by a Stunt Ensemble in a Motion Picture. Thus, his two SAG wins are definitely a huge accomplishment, giving him an appropriate nod of success.
In the midst of controversy surrounding the lack of nominations for actors of color at the upcoming Oscars, the Screen Actors Guild Awards sung a different tune on Saturday night (Jan. 30). For a full list of winners, see below.
The actress gave an emotional speech and said: “I would like to take an opportunity to acknowledge the actors who are at home, not here in this room with us, but hoping to one day be in this room with us”, she said as she gave her emotional thank you speech. Drama actor champ Kevin Spacey (House of Cards) became the eighth person to win his category twice, while Viola Davis (How to Get Away with Murder) joins Allison Janney and Gillian Anderson as two-time drama actress winners. “The Spotlight” won Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture at the SAG Awards.
“[It is] a show that reflects and represents so many people”, said Aduba while accepting the award.
Alicia Vikander’s emotional performance in The Danish Girl – a film about a man transitioning into a woman – earned her the gong for Most Outstanding Performance by an actress in a supporting role.
Latifah had previously won SAG Awards in 2008 for for her role in the TV movie Life Support, and in 2003, for her role in the ensemble cast of Chicago.
Award season is in full swing as the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) just recently handed out their trophies to the best of the best in both film and television.
Leonardo DiCaprio took home the best film actor award for his outdoor-adventure in The Revenant, while Brie Larson won the top actress prize for her role as a mother in Room.
He dedicated the ward to ‘the non-Maura Pfefferman’s who don’t have a lot of cash for their operations, for their medicine, for their freedom’.
