Tim Gray, the awards editor for industry magazine Variety, said while he felt the nominations were “a good list”, he lamented some snubs, including for black actor Will Smith in National Football League drama “Concussion”.
On the night, it will probably be between Mad Max: Fury Road and The Revenant, depending on how set in their ways the Academy voters are.
The hashtag #OscarsSoWhite was soon trending after the nominations were announced last Thursday.
For the second year in a row, all 20 acting nominees were white. This has been a great year in film, it really has across the board, she told entertainment website Deadline.
And on Thursday, “The Revenant” continued its awards-season conquest with 12 total nominations including Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor and Best Director among others. All three boast budgets above $100 million.
Amid the excitement from nominees, others in Hollywood were nursing their wounds.

Still, Boone Isaacs says diversity is a big issue, but the performers who were nominated are deserving of that recognition. Considering that “Steve Jobs” underperformed at the box office, the nod for Fassbender is a borderline surprise. “We are working inside the Academy in order to make sure we have inclusion”, Isaacs, said.
