Actress Ashley Benson apologizes for Cecil the Lion costume
Entertainment News Online reports that Benson posted a photo of her in a lion costume, asking her followers for their opinion on her chosen Halloween costume. It was later changed to “Help!” Can’t decide on my Halloween costume this year!
Yandy promised to donate 20 percent of the proceeds from their 0 Deluxe Lion Costume and the skimpier 9 Cecil The Lion Costume to a global conservation organization.
“Yesterday’s post was in poor taste and I absolutely regret all of the hurt that photo caused”, she wrote. “What do you guys think of this Cecil the Lion costume?” she originally captioned her Instagram, according to E!
“I recognize that I am responsible for everything posted on my social accounts and this was an unfortunate oversight”, she added.
The costume worn by Ashley retails at just under £100 but there is also a skimpier version called “Cecil the Lion Costume’ which costs about £77”.
Despite the backlash that Benson and Yandy got for the distasteful outfit, it is not the first time that a company attempted to capitalize on the poaching of the said lion. In case you’re interested, it’s available in sizes small/medium, medium/large and large/extra-large.
