Actress Viola Davis Makes History With Her Win At Emmy Awards
Amazon’s comedy-drama Transparent won awards for best director in a comedy and for its lead actor, Jeffrey Tambor, who plays a transgender college professor.
Viola Davis accepts the award for Outstanding Lead Actress In A Drama Series for her role in ABC’s “How To Get Away With Murder” during the 67th Primetime Emmy Awards in Los Angeles, California September 20, 2015. And let me tell you something: The only thing that separates women of color from anyone else is opportunity. The win made her the first actress to win both a drama and comedy Emmy for the same role.
“Thank you HBO for believing in dragons”, co-creator David Benioff said after receiving the drama prize from Tracey Morgan”.
Tambor, 71, won for his role as a father who transitions to a woman, and he dedicated the award – his first Emmy – to the transgender community.
The award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series has a stacked set of nominees that includes amusing ladies Amy Poehler, Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Amy Schumer.
HBO’s “Veep” ended the five-year Emmy reign of ABC’s “Modern Family” as best comedy series.
The success of “Thrones” at the Emmys echoes a first at the Academy Awards more than 10 years ago.
With HBO’s attempt to deliver the show to audiences and at the same time prevent illegal downloads, “Game of Thrones” also holds the Guinness World Record for the largest simultaneous broadcast of any TV drama across the world.
The show was the highest award earner taking home 12 awards out of its 24 nominations, the most to be won by any show in a year. Game of Thrones kept Mad Men from winning a fifth Emmy for Drama Series.
“I think it would be appropriate at this moment to quote our political satire Veep: ‘What a great honor it must be for you to honor me tonight.’ Oh, no, no no. Donald Trump said that”.
Supporting Actor, Limited Series or Movie: Bill Murray, “Olive Kitteridge“, HBO.
“Olive Kitteridge” was Emmy-bait from get-go with its stellar cast, literary pedigree and Oscar-nommed Lisa Cholodenko at the helm.
The show, which Stewart hosted for the last 16 years, emerged as a top victor in the Variety category of Emmy awards with three trophies.
