Adam Driver Remembers ‘The Force Awakens’ Costar Carrie Fisher
Many are still deeply mourning the loss of Star Wars icon Carrie Fisher, who has appeared in four live-action movies as Princess Leia.
Adam Driver, who played “The Force Awakens” character Kylo Ren, just opened up about the death of his “Star Wars” co-star and on-screen mother Carrie Fisher.
Just days after the tragic death of actress Carrie Fisher, a petition is circulating by fans to make her “Star Wars” character Princess Leia Organa, an official Disney Princess. According to The Hollywood Reporter, these two sequences would involve Leia and the two other men she loves most in the world, namely her son Ben and her brother Luke.
So will director/writer Rian Johnson figure out a way to write Leia out of the trilogy before Episode VIII concludes, or will that burden be passed to director Colin Trevorrow and writer Derek Connolly for Episode IX? That backs up a December 30th report about the amount Disney might get as a result of an insurance policy taken out if Fisher couldn’t finish filming on Star Wars. Although Princess Leia is a Disney princess insofar as the character is (obviously) a princess and one that is owned by Disney, she is not part of the official Disney Princess Line. Trevorrow will meet with Lucasfilm head Kathleen Kennedy to explore options later this month.
Fisher had at least two scenes that were vital to the overarching story in those two films, according to THR. It is believed that she was set to play a prominent role in Episode IX, although that project has yet to enter pre-production. The character already made an altered appearance in “Rogue One” (alongside the also-deceased Peter Cushing) thanks to some digital trickery; could a similar feat be planned for future “Wars” flicks?
In many ways, Leia defies the typical monarchical/”royal” stereotypes of refinement and careful etiquette; all the more reason to proclaim her – and her vocal, self-reliant ways – as an official Disney princess.
