Adam Gase: Former Broncos OC Named Dolphins Head Coach
Today, according to the report, he met with the New York Giants, who would figure to be a more enticing option than either the Browns or Dolphins.
A team source told the Miami Herald that while a deal was not yet finalized, the two sides are making progress.
Now it’s up to Adam Gase to prove he can do something predecessor Joe Philbin couldn’t: Get the Dolphins and young quarterback Ryan Tannehill into the playoffs.
Adam Gase has been confirmed as the new Miami Dolphins head coach.
Gase has been a quarterbacks coach for the Detroit Lions and Denver Broncos during his coaching career before taking over as offensive coordinator of the Broncos and Chicago Bears in the last four seasons.
With Gase’s departure, Cutler will have his sixth different offensive coordinator in eight seasons with the Bears. Tannehill was given a $96 million extension previous year but has been inconsistent with a 29-35 record as a starter. Gase was a hot head coaching candidate around the league last season, but after the San Francisco 49ers botched the job offer process, he chose to come work with Jay Cutler and wait for another year. He asks a lot of questions and writes everything down. Cutler has spoken very highly of Loggains and handing him the play calling duties would be the easiest way to maintain the continuity built up in 2015. While Gase doesn’t have any head coaching experience, he has been a part of some excellent offenses.
“I couldn’t be happier for Adam and his family”, Cutler told ChicagoBears.com. His work with quarterbacks is well documented and I know firsthand how good he is.
“I think my passion, my attitude, the way I go about interacting with players, the relationships I develop with players”, he said. It will be important for Gase to produce the same improvements in Tannehill that he’s done with other quarterbacks. He is regarded by some as a rising star in the coaching ranks and it was clear that he was going to land a head coaching job this offseason, whether it was in Miami or elsewhere.
Saban coached the Dolphins for two seasons, going 9-7 in 2005 and 6-10 in 2006 before leaving for the Crimson Tide. “He’s ready for this for sure”. He is not expected to be retained, and Miami has now interviewed six candidates to replace him.
Gase worked at LSU for three seasons (2000-02) under Nick Saban, starting off as a defensive graduate assistant in 2000 before working in recruiting from 2001-02.
