Adam Gase will call offensive plays
Gase, the former offensive coordinator for the Chicago Bears, becomes the NFL’s youngest head coach at age 37.
While the Dolphins did fire Joe Philbin, an offensive-minded coach, earlier this season, it seems that Dolphins owner Stephen Ross and the rest of the Miami front office want another offensive mind to jump-start starting quarterback Ryan Tannehill’s progression to becoming an elite National Football League passer.
A team source told the Miami Herald that while a deal was not yet finalized, the two sides are making progress.
The Dolphins chose Gase after interviewing six other candidates and gave him final say over the 53-man roster. Rapoport reports that the Dolphins are expected to offer their head coaching position to Gase during the second interview and Gase is expected to accept the offer.
Bears coach John Fox and quarterback Jay Cutler recently expressed confidence in the club’s ability to replace Gase without stumbling on the field.
Like Cutler Tannehill was recently signed to a huge contract extension.
Will the Chicago Bears’ offense regress in 2016 without Adam Gase as the offensive coordinator?
Giants: New York has interviewed former Buffalo Bills coach and current Jacksonville assistant Doug Marrone for its head coaching job.
Manning said Gase is bright, eager and a hard worker.
Meanwhile, the 49ers head coaching search continues with names like Chip Kelly, Mike Shanahan, and Hue Jackson (who will be interviewed on Sunday) being tossed around as potential replacements for the lackluster Jim Tomsula.
Despite the team finishing 6-10 and fourth in the NFC North division, Cutler threw 21 touchdowns and only 11 interceptions for 3,659 passing yards and a rating of 92.3. His work with quarterbacks is well documented and I know firsthand how good he is. “I think he needs a guy that’s going to have his back”.
“I couldn’t be happier for Adam and his family”, Cutler said.
Gase comes into the job with no head coaching experience at any level of football. He asks a lot of questions and writes everything down. But he’s earned a strong reputation for his work the last three seasons as an offensive coordinator, first with the Broncos and then this season with the Bears. “He is ready for this for sure”.
