Adam Warren traded to Cubs
In his career he’s started at every position but pitcher and catcher.
He never completely lived up to what he could’ve been in Chicago, but Castro was a unique character in the Cubs’ quest for their first World Series title since 1908. The Cubs were sort of a surprise team to sign Zobrist, who had been strongly linked to the Mets.
When someone says that “it wasn’t about the money” with Ben Zobrist when he went looking for a new team in free agency this offseason, it’s not just an empty platitude.
“I know what I need to do to prepare myself, and I try to do the best I can to take care of my body and prolong my peak years as a baseball player”, Zobrist said.
“That is my No. 1 goal the next four years is to win a championship and bring a World Series trophy back to Chicago”. With just one year left on his contract, the 38-year-old outfielder said he likely will either retire following next season or play one more year, depending on how he performs in 2016 and how his body feels. Zobrist grew up in downstate IL and wanted to stay in the Midwest because he keeps a home in Tennessee and would be able to access those short Nashville-to-Chicago flights.
In another move to get younger and balance their batting order, the New York Yankees acquired infielder Starlin Castro from the Chicago Cubs on Tuesday night for pitcher Adam Warren and a player to be named.
The Diamondbacks, who last week stunned Major League Baseball by signing free agent starter Zack Greinke to a six-year, $206.5 million deal, added another All-Star to their rotation with the acquisition of 25-year-old Miller.
Zobrist didn’t explicitly confirm reports that he had $60 million offers on the table, but the New York Mets, Washington Nationals and San Francisco Giants simply couldn’t match the geographic fit, another opportunity to play for Maddon and the chance to make history.
“I didn’t put my head down”, Castro said. This hot streak also happened to coincide with him becoming the Cubs’ regular second baseman, the position the Yanks are poised to have him play.
“It outdid a lot of the dollar-amount figures in my mind”.
In the day’s other trade, the St.
“A lot of my family is split”, Zobrist said. They Now, I like stated before and like the Yankees have pieces to move like Almora, Torres and Montero if they choose too. With all of the arms the Cubs have been stockpiling, they’re certainly hoping to go at least four wins deeper into the postseason next year, and preferably eight.
In 59 regular-season games for Kansas City, Zobrist hit. “The moment we moved him to second base, the thing that I loved was that he never, ever, not once made an excuse”.
“It builds a sort of mettle in you and a confidence that even when things aren’t going well, you can turn it around”.
“I’m not going to be satisfied with making the playoffs here. It’s the championship. That’s what it’s all about”.
