Addicted to GIFs? Facebook’s Newest Update Is For You
Users can also set a temporary profile picture that reverts to their old picture at a specified time.
Facebook announced five major changes to user profiles, a few of which have been rolled out already and are being tested today by a few users, TechCrunch reports.
If you’re not that excited about your profile turning into a video, you can keep your static profile picture, which will become centered and much bigger on your page.
“Profile videos will let show a part of yourself you couldn’t before, and add a (literal!) new dimension to your profile”, the company writes in its blog post on the news.
The feature is being introduced to give people a more “rounded look at your personality” or “more creeping material” in layman’s terms.
This is the coolest new feature. You’ll be happy to know this can include emoji-which is great, because all you need to know about me is ✈️. This is not a drill-I repeat, this is not a drill: You can soon have a GIF profile photo on Facebook.
On other news items and feeds, a still image will appear. The new featured photos space is an option-so don’t worry, Facebook won’t populate this field for you if you don’t want it there. The social network is introducing a new layout that allows users to control who sees the information on their profile by individually customizing information fields such as Work, City, University, Hometown and Bio. Well, your profile is about to get a lot more exciting with several changes coming from Facebook, including the ability to create a looping profile picture video.
Along with the three new features, Facebook will also change the design on mobile profiles.
Only a “small number” of iPhone users in the United Kingdom and California will have access to the feature at first, though more people will gain access “soon”.
