Addison Russell Not Starting Game 4 For Cubs
CHICAGO (AP) – Cubs shortstop Addison Russell has left Game 3 of the NL Division Series against the Cardinals due to tightness in his left hamstring. The seven-time All-Star was removed for a pinch hitter in the sixth.
The Cardinals, meanwhile, will likely be without catcher Yadier Molina after he left Game 3 with a flareup of the injury to his right thumb that he suffered during the season.
Anthony Davis scored 26 points on 10-for-16 shooting to lead the New Orleans Pelicans to a 123-115 preseason win over the Chicago Bulls on Monday night.
Tony Cruz will catch for the Cardinals.
Javier Baez will take over at shortstop and bat ninth for manager Joe Maddon.
The Cubs planned a few tests for Tuesday morning while inserting Baez into the lineup.
“We’ll just have to wait and see how it is overnight and come back in and tell the trainers how I feel and go from there”, Russell said.
Russell is 3 for 12 in four games in his first postseason.
Maddon says if there’s a Game 5, he isn’t hopeful Russell could start it.
