Adelaide Crows coach Phil Walsh found dead, son charged with murder
Chapman said the right call had been made to split the points.
Crows chief executive Andrew Fagan said there was disbelief within the club. “It’s really hard to comprehend”.
Walsh was found dead July 3, 2015 inside his Somerton Park residence.
Cy is under psychiatric watch at the same hospital and is expected to face a bedside hearing later today.
26-year-old Cy Walsh (left) has been charged over the murder of his father, Adelaide Crows coach Phil Walsh.
Cornes’ sons, Kane and Chad, both knew Walsh well from his time as an assistant coach at Port.
“Those wounds resulted in Mr Walsh’s death”.
“We can’t speak to the son at this stage and obviously [the] wife is receiving treatment so as the investigation unfolds, I’m sure we’ll find out exactly what happened”. Bray said.
“The only difference with this (case) is that he has a high profile. The pain and suffering of the family is no different”. A knife, believed to have been used in the attack, was retrieved from the scene.
In a press conference detectives revealed that the sporting legend was stabbed causing fatal injuries after his son had returned home at around 2 am this morning. The man’s son, aged 26, has been arrested but no charge has yet been laid.
“I wouldn’t say I was a close friend, but I talked footy a few times with him when we worked together”, Evans said.
In an April interview, Walsh admitted that his career had affected his family life, saying that he was trying to “reconnect” with his son.
The AFL will abandon this weekend’s clash with the Crows and Geelong out of respect for coach Phil Walsh.
Walsh coached just 12 games for Adelaide. He was appointed the Crows senior coach last October.
The Crows were scheduled to play Geelong on Sunday afternoon, but it is not clear whether the match will now take place.
Prior to coaching Adelaide, Walsh was a player at Richmond, Collingwood and the Brisbane Bears, a runner at Geelong, and an assistant coach at the Power and West Coast.
The tributes quickly flowed, with Adelaide midfielder Rory Atkins taking to Twitter.
“This is unprecedented”, he told Seven’s Sunrise on Friday morning. It was a speech that resonated with many.
“In the tragic circumstances, the welfare of Meredith, her family and our people is paramount”.
Collingwood’s defensive pressure gave it the ascendancy around the ground but the efficient Hawks took leads, albeit slender, to each change as the more experienced outfit held its nerve the better.
“We’ve lost a great man. It’s so sad…”
On behalf of its players, coaches, staff, members and supporters, the club’s thoughts and deepest sympathies are with Walsh’s loved ones. Absolutely devastating news”, while Hawthorn skipper Luke Hodge said: “Terrible news to wake up to.
“There are not many in the AFL who haven’t sat down and had a good conversation with Phil Walsh“, Russell said. “The sorrow and the stress felt today touches many in our industry”.
