Adelaide Fringe star Dr. Brown scores Netflix show
Netflix, the dominating video streaming service has continued to produce new and original series and now they’re bringing forth their own comedy sketch series.
Honestly, the “whatever” attitude to this show might backfire, but we’re hopeful the approach results in something far better than Netflix’s star-studded, highly planned, and highly cringeworthy comedy, A Very Murray Christmas.
The series stars up-and-coming comedians Lauren Lapkus, Kate Berlant, Dr. Brown, Paul W. Downs, John Early, Tim Robinson, Natasha Rothwell, and Henry Zebrowski.
Although it’s impossible to judge whether or not this was a risk worth taking, it might propel one or more of these comedians to a larger role in a Netflix original of their own. The basic setup of The Characters is that Netflix gave eight comedians each an episode to fill with whatever kind of wacky sketch stuff they wanted to do, and the press release points out that there were “no rules” and “no limits” for how they did this.
Netflix’s new sketch comedy show will premiere on March 11. Viewers can expect SNL’s Cecily Strong and Bobby Moynihan, Tyson Beckford, and Broad City’s Abbi Jacobson to show up in cameos.
The sketches range from Bachelorparodies to Biblical spoofs and Netflix has christened its new show as an “outlaw comedy”.
The Characters debuts on March 11th.
