Adele May Not Stream ’25’ on Spotify
The Verge, citing an unnamed source “with knowledge of the situation”, on Tuesday reported that 25 may be the next high-profile album that will not stream on Spotify.
According to The Verge, Adele, 27, and her team have been holding talks with Spotify to persuade the company to release 25 as a streaming option only for premium subscribers, who have paid for the service, as opposed to those who listen for free. Of the 75 million users on Spotify, around 20 million are paid subscribers. Beyoncé’s album can now be found on Spotify, but Swift has removed almost all of her music from the streaming service.
A senior executive at Spotify said, “It is categorically untrue that anyone has asked us to feature Adele’s new album on premium only”. In 2014, Taylor Swift refused to allow her album 1989 to be streamed on Spotify.
Despite endless offers of product endorsement deals and public appearances, Adele admits that biggest change to her life has been in her grocery shopping, as she now chooses to purchase her food stuffs and essentials at British middle-class Mecca, Waitrose.
The singer announced over Twitter yesterday that she will be guest editing the first issue of the revived Observer Music magazine, which will be published with its parent newspaper on November 15. She is also performing at her upcoming “Adele Live in NY City” concert special, which will take place on Monday, December 14 and air on NBC. “25” is the follow-up to the Grammy-winning “21”, which produced the singles “Rolling in the Deep”, “Someone like You”, “Set Fire to the Rain”, “Rumour Has It” and “Turning Tables”.
