Adele’s ’25’ not available for streaming on Spotify or Apple Music
An answer emerged on Thursday, after weeks of speculation: No. But it remains controversial among many artists over royalty payments and issues of control.
As one industry source told Billboard magazine, “Adele arguably needs streaming services less than any previous holdouts”.
Adele’s highly anticipated new album “25” has arrived, but you may not find it in the usual places. Many artists have no choice but to offer their music for streaming if they want to get their music to the masses, meaning that they have to accede to the terms set by the services. For two years running theyve not had the biggest album of the year.
Predictions are that she’ll cash in on the move, and sell as many as 3.5 million copies of “25” within the first week. She and her team may be looking to increase album and song sales by skipping streaming services.
The strategy is working for her, just as the strategy of being everywhere from day one is working for Justin Bieber and One Direction, whose albums came out last week.
Taylor Swift’s album’s popularity was not affected in the least; “1989” sold over 1.2 million copies during its first week alone. It has a total of about 75 million users with 20 million paid subscribers.
The singer has decided she will not release the album on streaming networks however and you will have to go and hand over your hard-earned cash for an album of heartbreaking ballads. “We hope she will give those fans the opportunity to enjoy 25 on Spotify alongside 19 and 21 very soon”, the company said in a statement. According to the Belfast Telegraph, Adele created a persona named “Jenny” and altered her look with prosthetics applied to her nose and chin.
Many music executives believe that streaming is the future of music, but conflicts have arisen between the streaming services and the artists that make the music over royalty payments and issues of control.
“I’m moving forward in a massive way, in a way I didn’t think I’d be doing for another ten years”.
With both strong CD and digital sales, “25” is projected to break NSYNC’s record of biggest-selling opening week in Nielsen SoundScan history, Vulture reported.
The album has also been accompanied by a steady marketing drumbeat.
Journalists who had access to the advanced copies, pulled out his critical side and said that while “25” would not have the same seminal experience as the one with the album “21”, fans would not disappointed on it.
Adele chatted with Graham Norton for a TV special and also showed her sense of humor when she agreed to disguise herself as an Adele impersonator to fool a few people. However, most of the tracks in the newly released album sounds quite close to its predecessor as most of the tracks are still about the heartbreak that triggered “21”. It is the singer’s first batch of new songs since 2011′s smash hit album “21”.
