Adele’s New Album Is Out, But It’s Not Streaming
Adele’s “25” is the first by the singer since “21” in 2011, which sold more than 30 million copies worldwide.
It really has been a long time coming as fans have had to wait one hell of a long time for new music from Adele, but it has been worth it in many ways as 25 is such a flawless album.
Apple said it was “thrilled” to offer Adele’s “25” for purchase on iTunes. But, as we’ve said – we’d much rather wait and have a ideal album, which we have been given.
And between performances and the comedy sketch, there was also time for a serious chat with Graham as Adele -who has a three-year-old son Angelo with partner Simon Konecki – opened up about how motherhood has changed her.
In a message on her Twitter feed on Friday, Adele did not mention the decision not to stream the album but said she hoped fans would enjoy the music.
Her record label has made it clear that, at least for the time being, the album will not be available for streaming on Spotify, Pandora or any of the other similar services. “I am so overwhelmed and grateful to be able to even put another record out, and put it out how I want”.
Before now, it had been announced that an enhanced version of Adele’s new work with extra tracks would be available through retailer Target, but no plans for streaming had been announced.
“The last month has been a whirlwind, its literally taken my breath away”. “Love In the Dark”, written with Sia collaborator Samuel Dixon, is reminiscent of “Turning Tables” from “21”; she’s looking back on “When We Were Young”, which sounds like a pop classic; and the drum-filled “I Miss You” is eerie and moody – in a good way. What’s curious is how Adele’s songs invert the typical pop-star approach to youth: She’s not giddy and nervous with excitement over crushes (see: Carly Rae Jepsen’s excellent E•MO•TION) nor penning cheerful odes to being 22 (Taylor Swift).
However when she starts singing, within a few bars, and with heart-warming reactions, the impersonators one by one start to realise that “Jenny” is actually the real Adele.
