Adele smashes single-week USA album sales record in four days
The collection sold nearly a million iTunes downloads on its first day, and has sold nearly 2 million total in the us after only 2 days of availability.
That record is currently held by Oasis, whose album “Be Here Now” sold 696,000 copies in its first week in 1997, whilst Official Charts Company statistics show “25” has shifted just over 500,000 within its first three days.
The Oscar-winning singer’s latest release has already rewritten U.S. record books by surpassing *NSYNC’s “No Strings Attached” tally of 2,416,000 to become the fastest selling album in a single week in the States.
“Records were made to be broken”, Chasez says.
“25” marks Adele’s comeback after her album “21” released nearly five years ago and which sold over 30 million copies and won 7 Grammy awards.
Adele’s “25” is projected to sell 2.9 million units in its debut week, with experts suggesting that 42 per cent of all US record buyers have picked up a copy.
Swift’s record had sold 1.74 million copies in the U.S.as of November 12, so it’s safe to say she is already left in the dust, as Adele’s disc continues to sell at a remarkable pace.
Breaking the record today is even more impressive when you consider how much album sales have dropped overall in the years since *NSYNC set its sales benchmark back in 2000, when the industry was at its commercial peak.
The huge Adele sales figures come at a time when artists rarely top 1 million in opening week sales because of the rise of online streaming of music.
Adele’s fanatically anticipated new album, 25, is here. That’s why although Adele is not releasing “25” on Spotify, Apple Music and others, the album’s first single “Hello” was in fact featured on all of the largest streaming services.
