Adele steals the show at 2016 BRIT Awards

The singer, who won four awards at the main bash, turned around and left.

However, Adele lost out to One Direction in the fan-voted category British Artist Video Of The Year which they won for “Drag Me Down“. After being away for so long and to come back to this is incredible.

Adele was responsible for making a host of musicians emotional at the BRIT Awards on Wednesday evening (02.24.16). She was the only artist or group to receive more than one award at the ceremony.

The 27-year-old singer won awards for British Female Solo Artist, British Single for “Hello” and Mastercard British Album Of The Year for “25” and also took home the BRITs Global Success Award, which was presented by astronaut Tim Peake live from the International Space Station.

The awards – which celebrate worldwide as well as British acts – have been accused of failing to represent the industry’s ethnic diversity, in an echo of the debate raging around the Academy Awards.

Chris Martin and co now have nine trophies to their name, although the figure pales in comparison to Robbie Williams’ 17 awards (12 as a solo artist and five with Take That).

The ceremony has been transformed in recent years into a slick, often predictable, talent showcase – though Madonna gave audiences a shock last year when she got tangled in her flowing cape and tumbled off the stage mid-performance.

Annie Lennox paid tribute to the late David Bowie before his friend Gary Oldman accepted his icon award. I for one will stand beside you and behind you.

British male solo artist victor James Bay joined Justin Bieber, who was named global male solo artist, as he performed his hit Love Yourself, before Bieber launched into an energetic performance of his chart-topping song Sorry.

“Even in dire circumstances, when he wrote to tell me the bad news he added, the good news is, I’ve got my cheek bones back”.

Jesy Nelson spoke to Radio 1, and said: “We feel like this is the biggest performance we’ve ever done in our lives”.
