Adele talks about making ’25’ and crying to her own music
November 15 marks the 10-year anniversary of the release of Carrie Underwood’s debut album, a few Hearts. Or to be more precise: Adele’s management demands that Spotify limits the availability of her album to paid subscribers only, which would make it accessible to less than one in three users on the platform.
“I have to write more music for myself, and there’s nothing else I want to do”, she said. In a statement to The Verge, a senior executive at Spotify said “It is categorically untrue that anyone has asked us to feature Adele’s new album on premium only”. When she was on the Graham Norton Show, she admitted that she was drowning her feeling while writing this album which is called “21” but she did love the drama involved while falling apart.
Before this teaser, Adele had been silent for several years. “Hello”, the first single from the upcoming 25, is just as passionate a song as the tracks on 21 and had the best sales week for a single since 1997. Despite that, the record sold 30 million copies around the world, including 11 million in the US. Mark Mulligan, a music industry analyst for MIDiA Research, told CBC that rather than saving the industry, Adele is just really delaying the inevitable.
While fans have no doubt in the singer’s talents, Adele confessed that she wasn’t sure about getting back into the music scene after 21’s major success. With songs like “Rolling in the Deep” and “Someone Like You”, Adele broke onto the music scene with her haunting, heartbreaking songs.
Meanwhile, Adele is preparing to promote her forthcoming album with multiple appearances in the coming weeks. While many of her peers also boost their bank balances with endorsements for popular brands, Adele has no intention of heading down that path.
Country-turned-pop singer Taylor Swift, who has had four albums hit No. 1 since 2006, gave her a No. 8 ranking in the greatest acts.
There’s no denying that Adele’s songs have a certain power over the listener. Spotify could also reportedly turn down the “Someone Like You” singer’s request and miss out on the album, which has caused quite a bit of buzz long before its release date.
