Adidas reportedly want Pep Guardiola and Lionel Messi at Manchester United

Frank Wormuth, who also serves as Germany’s under-20 coach, said Guardiola was “an outstanding coach” but suggested that his success with Barcelona and Bayern had not been sufficient to warrant his reputation as the world’s best.

On Monday, Guardiola again refused to be drawn on where he will end up next season – although Manchester City are the favourites – but told reporters his focus would “of course” remain on Bayern until the end of the season. “Maybe it will be two years until I will coach a team in England”.

Guardiola was apologetic if he has created pressure for the Premier League managers: “I am sorry”, said Guardiola.

Guardiola has uncharacteristically or rather inadvertently, created a negative multiplier effect for the futures of some high-profile Premier League managers. “The defenders here are very tough but I like that”.

However Guardiola has twisted the plot further, by stating that it could be two years before he manages a club in the Premier League.

Chelsea have wooed Guardiola from afar for some time and owner Roman Abramovich has offered him a salary of millions and a pledge to bank roll spending on new players.

Guardiola looks destined to take the reins at Manchester City this summer and with their local rivals persisting with Louis van Gaal’s increasingly unpopular philosophy this understandably grates with many supporters. “No changes, absolutely. I’m working here”.

Wormuth said: “During my courses, I show my pupils that a team plays three or four different systems during a match without realising it”. “But I’m convinced that with his qualities, his playing style, and how he thinks about football, if he has got good players, he will do fine”.

“Relieved? I don’t know”.
