ADL urges U.S. to further investigate Tamir Rice shooting
In a statement read to the grand jury and released by prosecutors, Loehmann said he yelled for Rice to show his hands and saw him pull a gun from his waistband before firing. No arrests were reported.
About 75 protesters escorted by police gathered at barriers in front of a Cleveland courthouse and then marched around downtown chanting “Whose streets?”
“Protesting is an American way of life”.
Again, the officers have to focus on the actions of the suspects they encounter, not what other people think they might have seen.
“As the video shows, Officer Loehmann shot my son in less than a second”, she wrote.
By early evening, the number of protesters had dwindled to about 40 and the demonstration ended. So far, there have been just a handful of peaceful protests around the city. Jackson says protesters have every right to voice their opinion, but he says the city won’t tolerate any violence.
“My family and I are in pain and devastated by the non-indictment of officers Timothy Loehmann and Frank Garmback for the murder of our beloved Tamir”. “And there are no answers because the prosecutors have foreclosed the possibility of criminal accountability”.
“The actions of officers Garmback and Loehmann were not criminal”, McGinty said.
“Our law enforcement can not be judge jury and executioner and its inexcusable to kill a 12-year-old child and not be held accountable”. Rice was black; the police officers are white.
Assistant prosecutor said that it was extremely hard to tell the difference between a pellet gun and a real one which led police officers believe that their lives were in danger forcing them to open fire at Tamir. A judge ultimately acquitted the patrolman of manslaughter.
The boy’s family has criticized how prosecutors handled the case.
“There’s been lots of cases where he goes out and calls for an investigation and turns out nothing, there’s nothing there, no civil rights violations or any of the civil violations that he had jurisdiction over”, Bush said Wednesday.
“The officers owed a duty to the innocent #TamirRice which means they should have refrained from acting in a harmful way that caused death”, Johnson said.
Mayor Frank Jackson said Tuesday that it’s important to reassure the public that the internal review will based on the facts and that the outcome isn’t predetermined.
Tamir’s family condemned the decision but echoed the prosecutor in urging those disappointed to express themselves “peacefully and democratically”.
“They run a big risk if they don’t”, Katz said.
