Adnan Sami is ‘Thankful to the Indian Government’ For Indian Citizenship
Following this, Mr Sami approached the Home Ministry with the request to legalise his stay in India on humanitarian grounds.
Sami with his powerful Indian contacts also made several representations to Home Minister Rajnath Singh about his citizenship.
Finally the government acceded to Pakistani singer Adnan Sami request and granted him Indian citizenship with effect from January. “Thankful to government of India for this precious and handsome gift”. In 2001, Sami came to India on a one-year visa and kept renewing it time to time. He was granted the right to stay in India on humanitarian grounds after his Pakistani passport expired earlier this year.
