Adrian backs Arsenal’s Petr Cech to bounce back after forgettable debut
Cech made an unforgettable Premier League debut for the Arsenals as his mistakes led to two goals for West Ham.
Cech was at fault for West Ham’s second goal after he was wrong footed and failed to set himself properly for what should have been a fairly standard save.
“I was at Tottenham for a while, but they did not want me, and I went to West Ham, which was the best option for me”, Oxford was quoted as saying yesterday.
However, despite Cech receiving criticism from many quarters for his inability to prevent Arsenal’s loss, Souness leapt to the defence of the new arrival, and stood by his pre-match claim that the stopper is worth “ten points a season“.
But the experienced goalkeeper who crossed-over to the Emirates from Stamford Bridge in June, has taken to his twitter handle to react shortly after the game.
Having spent £10million to recruit Cech from Chelsea this summer, there was a belief that Arsenal could again challenge for the title because defensive lapses would no longer be a serious problem.
Standard Sport understands Arsenal are interested in the Frenchman, and Keown believes that Wenger needs to invest in a striker, but says the Arsenal manager will not make public his interest in Benzema – or any other players – until a deal has been completed.
“We have a lot of players in attack who can cause problems for other teams”.
The Gunners defender suffered a devastating defeat against West Ham which put their Premier League hopes in stark perspective. “A successful season is how you respond to disappointments and it’s never a clear motorway”.
“I can’t see many individual convincing performances, so it is hard to single someone out”, he said. West Ham looked a bit sharper than us, more advanced in preparation than us.
“We were not convincing offensively or defensively”, admitted Wenger.
Victory over Arsenal, their first at Emirates Stadium since 2007, came just three days after their European demise at the hands of Romanian minnows Astra Giurgiu.
“It is a massive loss for us because we had great confidence and now it is time for us to settle down, stay healthy and look forward to next Sunday”.
“I would like to think we are responsible to buy the people and the coaches, and not the media”.
