Adrian Peterson Finishes Probation Early
Montgomery County District Attorney Brett Ligon said in November 2014 that one of the issues the grand jury considered heavily in determining whether to indict Peterson was their own experience and views on corporal punishment.
Minnesota Vikings star running back Adrian Peterson’s probation has been terminated early, according to a report from KHOU, and the Montgomery County District Attorney is claiming it was done without the NFL player completing all of its terms.
Peterson says he never intended to harm his son and was disciplining him in the same way he had been as a child growing up in East Texas.
Necessities for Peterson to finish a public service announcement about youngster abuse, verify in month-to-month with a probation officer and full obligatory drug testing have been additionally waived.
Peterson’s agent Rusty Hardin would not say whether the six-time Pro Bowler fulfilled all the requirements.
While an appeal could feasibly change the circumstances of Peterson’s probation once more, it shouldn’t have any bearing on his commitment to the Vikings.
Ligon told 11 News in Houston that defense attorneys submitted a motion to terminate the probation on July 29, and Case signed it the next day without holding a hearing. “The State moved to recuse Kelly Case from the Peterson matter prior to the plea, citing a long history of hostility between Judge Case and the District Attorney’s office”, Ligon said in his statement.
Peterson’s saga could officially come to a close if the termination of his probation is upheld, but another legal battle appears to be on the horizon. “The early termination, that’s what I was aiming for”. The case revived a debate about corporal punishment, which is on the decline in the U.S. but still widely practiced in homes and schools. The Vikings open the preseason Sunday against Pittsburgh in the Hall of Fame Game in Canton, Ohio, but Peterson is not expected to play until the September 14 regular-season opener at San Francisco.
“He’s been calling me out in one-on-ones, trying to get that lick back”, Peterson added.
