Aerosmith’s Perry hospitalized after becoming ill at NY show
They were playing a gig in NY last night when Perry, 65, was seen sitting on the drum riser and then walked off stage, where he reportedly collapsed.
According to the New York Post’s Page Six, Perry lost consciousness backstage and went into cardiac arrest.
The band’s name refers to a ’70s drinking club Cooper was part of that also included John Lennon, The Who’s Keith Moon, Harry Nilsson, Bernie Taupin and Micky Dolenz of the Monkees.
He was taken to hospital where he is said to be in a stable condition.
After the show, Alice Cooper tweeted that Perry was stable at a hospital. Video showed a frail Perry struggling to perform, then ducking behind the amp stack.
Hollywood Vampires record label rep Sujata Murthy says Perry is “stable and resting”.
Perry became unwell mid-set during Hollywood Vampires’ concert at Coney Island, NY’s Ford Amphitheater, with fan footage of the show finding him seated on the drum riser, looking dazed and unable to play his guitar.
Hollywood Vampires are now in the midst of their first US tour.
The 65-year-old entertainer walked off stage shortly after the performance started and apparently was transported to the emergency room.
“Thanks to all of the fans reaching out and asking about Joe”. Perry is in stable condition and now surrounded by his family.
In addition to Alice Cooper, other rock stars took to Twitter to wish the star a speedy recovery, including Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett and former Guns ‘N Roses/Hollywood Vampires drummer Matt Sorum.
Perry’s sudden ill-health comes just days after Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler announced that Aerosmith would be embarking on the band’s last world farewell tour before retiring.
Perry is one of the founding members of the legendary rock band Aerosmith, along with Steven Tyler, Ray Tabano, and Tom Hamilton.
