Affidavit reveals disturbing details about murder of baby ‘Chance’
After Chance died, he was put in his crib, where his body was left to decompose.
Bury, who was also charged with first-degree felony murder in her son’s death, went on to allegedly tell detectives that Joseph repeatedly struck Chance.
WINK-TV says, reports show Chance’s body was wrapped in multiple garbage bags and left in a bedroom closet.
Joseph Walsh was not present at a first court hearing on Wednesday.
Officials say the father of a missing baby has been extradited from South Carolina to Florida and charged with child neglect and felony murder. Walsh then beat the nine-week-old son to death.
Bonner also stipulated that Walsh not have any contact with Bury, 32, who is also being held at the county jail on the same charges after her extradition Friday from South Carolina, where both fled after the child’s death.
Though there has not yet been a positive identification of the body, Sarasota County Sheriff Tom Knight told reporters he’s “confident that it is Chance”. He faces a new charge of first-degree murder and his probable cause affidavit lays out the disturbing details of the young boy’s final hours, at least according to Bury.
“The review will include all the interactions that Joseph Walsh and Kristen Bury have had with the agency to determine what, in addition to the previous removal of all children in Mr. Walsh’s custody, could have been done to prevent this tragedy”, the statement said.
“The decomposed body was covered only with a diaper”, the report added. According to the affidavit, Bury never called 911 and didn’t take any measures to save the child.
Walsh, the boy’s father, allegedly told police Bury told him she didn’t want to call dispatchers because she didn’t want to lose both people she loves in the same day, according to the affidavit, which is partially redacted.
Chance was last seen by family members September 9, and his grandmother, Sally Susino, reported his disappearance to the sheriff’s office October 4, stating Bury and Walsh are longtime drug users. The couple did not say if Chance was crying at the time.
Investigators also found fragments of surgical gloves that Bury said Walsh wore as he dug the hole.
There are many questions for the Department of Children and Families after two Bay area children died. He said Walsh was often paranoid, and he heard Bury and Walsh say previously that they believed there was a demon in Chance.
