“Affluenza” mom returned to Texas
Tonya Couch, second from right, is escorted into Tarrant County Jail in Fort Worth, Texas, Thursday, Jan. 7, 2016. As reported by USA Today, she faces a charge of hindering apprehension of a fugitive and her bond has been set at $1 million.
The judge said he would not rule on that motion until a previously scheduled hearing Monday.
Couch was previously in custody in Los Angeles after being deported by Mexican authorities.
Tarrant County Judge Wayne Salvant advised Tonya Couch at the hearing Friday that she has been charged with hindering the apprehension of a felon.
Patten and Gordon went on to say that the “job” of the sheriff is to “hold press conferences” and “supervise his or her staff” and accuses Anderson of “piggybacking” on the case to gain attention for an upcoming election. She claims she has hired a lawyer.
Anderson met Tonya Couch at DFW Airport personally, he said, and rode shotgun in the Tarrant County van that returned the fugitive from Fort Worth. Anderson said Tonya said no to any media interviews and only made two requests when she arrived at the jail – a call to her lawyer and something to eat.
Ethan Couch is in a Mexican immigration detention facility while he fights deportation, which could take months.
Couch told the judge that she had a temporary passport, but that it was lost somewhere between Mexico and Los Angeles.
Couch insists she has done nothing wrong, despite being found in Puerto Villarta with Ethan Couch, who ran after violating probation in the manslaughter deaths of four people and the injury of more after drunk and drugged driving.
Recently, video surfaced that purported to show Couch violating the terms of his parole. “Couch is confined in a single cell in the county’s newest jail”.
Patten said Couch plans to enter a plea of not guilty in court. She faces a maximum of 10 years prison.
Because he was portrayed during his trial as an immature teen from a wealthy family – with a passing reference by a witness to his being a victim of “affluenza” – Ethan Couch’s sentencing became a national news story.
