‘Affluenza’ Teen Ethan Couch, Mother Detained in Mexico
“After their detention, they were handed over to Mexican immigration authorities for deportation, the statement said”.
A police report says 18-year-old Ethan Couch and his mother stayed at the Los Tules resort from December 20 to December 23, but were asked to leave because the condo’s owner was coming in for Christmas. The official would not say if he was being moved by air or ground.
Couch and his mother, who were being sought by Texas authorities, have been detained in the Pacific resort town town of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.

The 120 days in jail won’t please those who think Couch deserves worse, but as the facts stand now, it is what the law allows. She said although there are Americans in the area, they don’t tend to eat there. We have already gone through his case.
Couch became known in the United States as the “affluenza” teen during his trial in juvenile court over the 2013 deaths, when a psychologist said he was so wealthy and spoiled he could not tell the difference between right and wrong.
Let’s set aside that the American Psychiatric Association does not actually recognize “affluenza” as a medical diagnosis.
A hearing in mid-January will determine whether Couch will remain in the juvenile system or be transferred to adult probation.
Ethan Couch’s attorneys, Scott Brown and William Reagan Wynn, issued a written statement Tuesday.
Mexico’s attorney general’s office did not respond immediately to calls seeking information.
Anderson declined to provide many details on how investigators tracked down the pair in Puerto Vallarta, but said that people close to the family had provided key information to the authorities.
After plowing into Mitchell’s vehicle by the side of the road and killing the four people by it but before flipping into a tree, Couch knocked Jennings’ pickup – with two middle school-age boys belted in – into a collision with an oncoming Volkswagen Beetle.
US Marshal Rick Taylor told the Texas news conference that Mexico was treating Couch and his mother as “undesirables” and would likely expel them. Once returned to Texas, Couch will be held in a Tarrant County facility until a probation violation hearing January 19. The pair had been expected to come back to the United States Wednesday, but it now appears they’re trying to stall the process.
Anderson previously voiced his suspicions that Couch and his mother had made it out of the country, saying they had held a “going-away party”.
Anderson also said there was “more or less” a party thrown in the days before the Couches fled south of the border, indicating their trip was carefully planned.
No immediate charges were planned for others who may have known about or assisted with the plan, Anderson said.
Authorities believe Ethan Couch fled after the Tarrant County District Attorney’s Office began investigating a video that surfaced online allegedly showing the teen at a party with several people playing beer pong, a drinking game.
Authorities had been seeking Ethan Couch for about two weeks after he missed an appointment with a juvenile probation officer.
Couch could face a maximum sentence of four months in the juvenile system, Tarrant County District Attorney Sharen Wilson said. If he ends up on adult probation and violates that, he could land in jail for up to 40 years, Wilson said.
Anderson said an arrest warrant was being issued for Couch’s mother, Tonya Couch, on charges of hindering an apprehension, a third-degree felony that carries a sentence of two to 10 years in prison.
Couch pleaded guilty to intoxication manslaughter.
