‘Affluenza’ teen’s mom asks for lower bond
According to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Ms. Couch now is in Tarrant County jail, charged with hindering apprehension, with a bail of $1 million.
A judge on Monday reduced Tonya Couch’s bond from $1 million to $75,000 in a Tarrant County courtroom.
Ethan Couch is still in Mexico and his return to the USA largely depends on whether he decides to contest his deportation.
According to The Inquisitr, Tonya Couch is complaining about her accommodations as well as the bail ordered for her release.
The so-called “Affluenza” teen’s mom, Tonya Couch, is expected back in court today in Texas.
“The nation has watched with anger and disdain as Couch continues to show blatant disregard for the law”, Madd’s news release stated.
At the time, outrage followed when a judge sentenced him to probation instead of jail time.
A judge will consider reducing her bond amount, which has been set at one million dollars.
“Another of Tonya Couch’s sons, Steven McWilliams, testified Monday that the balance on a bank account belonging to her read “-$99 billion”.
She was arraigned Friday in Fort Worth but did not enter a formal plea.
A search warrant of bank and phone records found Tonya Couch had withdrawn $30,000 from a personal account and there was no other activity after December 3.
Tonya Couch was brought back to Texas last week after being caught with 18-year-old Ethan Couch in the Mexican resort town of Puerto Vallarta.
Ethan Couch is still in Mexico.
Prosecutors argued that Couch had previously demonstrated a “willingness to flee the jurisdiction”, even if she was doing it to help her son.
Ballard, who was a passenger in Ethan Couch’s pickup the night of the deadly crash, told Gabbert that he was at the meeting, and that the group discussed where the Couches would go, how they’d get there and how much money they would need. Authorities have previously said they had no evidence Fred Couch, who owns a North Texas sheet metal factory, was involved in helping Tonya and Ethan Couch flee. Authorities say they were able to track them after the two ordered a pizza. The court filing, signed by Magistrate Matt King, says that there is “reasonable cause” to believe Couch “has a mental illness or is a person with a mental retardation”.
