‘Affluenza’ teen’s mom set for extradition hearing in Los Angeles court
The Daily Mail reported that Couch maxed out his debit card and was apparently so drunk that club employees had to help him back to a hotel where he was hiding.
Tonya Couch arrived back in the United States on Thursday.
Ethan Couch partied at two clubs – Prestige and Harem, the latter of which boasts on a sign outside its building of “Boobies & Booties Galore”.
“We get all types of people in here, from senators to El Chapo Guzman”, he said, referring to the drug lord.
A Mexican immigration official also shared some details today about the holding facility where Ethan is staying. Online reports say he’s sleeping on a cot, in a room he shares with three or four other people.
Anderson said if a California judge grants extradition, Tarrant County deputies will go get her.
Lawyer Fernando Benitez said a Tuesday meeting with Ethan will determine whether he stretches out the process, or agrees to drop the appeal.
“To the extent of our knowledge, he has committed no crime at all in Mexico”, Benitez said.
“We believe authorities are using the deportation – which is an executive prerogative here in Mexico, whereby the executive branch can deport any foreigner without cause and without a trial whenever they see fit – and they’re using that in lieu of an extradition”, Benitez said. Her attorneys have said she did not violate Texas law.
Her attorneys say in a statement that Couch looks forward to returning to Texas as soon as possible to have her day in court.
“There’s no getting away now”.
Prosecutors were expected to ask that Tonya Couch, 38, be extradited to Texas.
The terms of his 10-year probation forbid him from driving or consuming alcohol.
Instead, he was sentenced to rehab and probation after a defense expert argued in juvenile court that Couch suffered from “affluenza” – an inability to tell right from wrong because he had a spoiled upbringing and wealthy parents who never punished him for bad behavior.
They called it “affluenza” – which is not recognized by the American Psychiatric Association.
Texas prosecutors believe the mother and son fled the state after a video surfaced that appears to show Ethan Couch at a party where people were drinking.
Couch and his mother disappeared shortly afterward.
Tonya Couch faces a felony charge in Tarrant County accusing her of hindering the apprehension of her son. She is then expected to be returned to Tarrant County later in the week, where she will be detained on a $1 million bond. “She will be brought here and booked into jail and then be arraigned by a magistrate here”, Anderson said.
