Afghanistan Cricket Team Shift Home Base from Sharjah to Noida
Greater Noida cricket stadium has officially become the home ground of Afghanistan Cricket team after Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with BCCI and Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority. In this direction, we identified this ground and Greater Noida authorities were open and cooperative to offer this ground to Afghanistan Cricket Board.
“Greater Noida authorities have ensured us that they will deliver in quick-time so that Afghanistan cricket board can host their future global matches at this ground in Noida”, he added.
As per the MoU, Afghanistan Cricketers will be able to utilise the facilities of the Shaheed Vijay Singh Pathik Sports Complex, which has successfully hosted a Ranji Trophy game between Uttar Pradesh and Baroda.
“This is a historic day for Afghanistan cricket and this will strengthen the relationship between two countries”, he said. “I am grateful to the BCCI and Anurag Thakur, in particular, for offering us a home base in India”.
He additionally talked about that Afghanistan have been making an attempt for this for the previous few years, and have been extraordinarily grateful to the BCCI in addition to the Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority for his or her co-operation and help.
Earlier, Afghanistan had asked India to help develop cricket in the war-torn country as the nation’s governing cricket body struggles to meet demand from players who want to take the sport to the next level. He wrote, “Delighted to share that Afghanistan Crickets home ground will be in India, to train & play matches”.
Rama Raman, Chairman, Noida, Greater Noida, Yamuna Expressway Authority said, “Mr. Akhilesh Yadav, Honourable Chief Minister, Uttar Pradesh was extremely eager to provide this ground to Afghanistan Cricket Board and because of his support, we had the ability to exercise this proposition in very brief period of time”.
“Afghanistan have done well in the last two years and to qualify in the World Cup, it showcases their hard-work”. I am happy that the ACB will now make this ground as their home ground. So when you play them in a multinational tournament in world events, then what stops you from playing them in a bilateral series.
Thakur was more than happy to throw light on the efforts of Asian powerhouses, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, to uplift associate cricket in the region.
