Afridi Dhoni to play charity match for United Kingdom armed force
Brendon McCullum’s ROW XI batted first and got off to a brisk start with former Aussie worldwide Matthew Hayden (36) starting aggressively.
The team is being coached by Gary Kirsten and managed by the Indian cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar. Meanwhile, Indian captain MS Dhoni and batsman Virender Sehwag and former South African batsman Herschelle Gibbs will also be part of the team.
“This was a fantastic end of season party, attended by a galaxy of cricketing stars and 20,000 happy cricket fans”, said Gould.
Dhoni in his true style helped Heroes XI chased down the total of 158/6 posed by the Rest of World XI (ROW) with three balls to spare.
McCullum wore a GoPro camera on his helmet for the most part of his innings as did the umpires Michael Gough and Martin Bodenham, creating some exciting footage.
Despite being out of competitive cricket for almost 3 months, India’s ODI captain MS Dhoni showed he has not lost his “finishing abilities” as he smashed a boundary to win a charity game at The Oval last night (September 17). “To have the capacity to have this great a period whilst raising nearly 300,000 for a magnificent reason is totally immaculate and I might want to thank everyone who gave their time and push to make it a really significant occasion”.
The fund-raiser event, organised for the British soldiers who are injured in the line of duty, featured global cricket’s biggest stars, past and present.
