After 1192 Days, Brazil Mega-Event Run Ends at Paralympics

Jessica Stretton beat team-mate Jo Frith in the women’s wheelchair final 137-124 to take ParalympicsGB’s overall medal tally to 129. The next best nation was Britain with 64 gold followed by Ukraine (41), the United States (40) and Australia (22).
The Great Britain unseated Russian Federation as it placed second with a total of 147 medals, 64 of which are gold, 39 are silver and 44 are bronze. On a day full of Paralympic records another was set in the 100m T42 heats as Italian Martina Caironi ran 14.80 for the new mark.
Tatyana McFadden, the US track and field star of the Rio Paralympics, was shockingly beaten in a photo finish in her final event, the T54 marathon, on Sunday.
“It’s been a tough week, maybe it was a Paralympics too far”, Weir told the BBC.
Only the tally of 107 golds from the NY andStoke Mandeville Games of 1984 seems beyond this team.
Although he refused to name names, the wheelchair racer cryptically revealed after his final Paralympics appearance that he been let down by a member of the GB team, essentially over broken promises.

9. Robert Davies took gold in the class 1 men’s singles table tennis.
There were two sailing bronze medals – for Alexandra Rickham and Niki Birrell in the two-person keelboat and for Helena Lucas in the one-person keelboat.
