After California attack, Clinton urges gun control
Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton speaks at a Grassroots Organizing Event at the Meadow Woods Recreation Center, Wednesday, Dec., 2, 2015, in Orlando, Fla. She noted that the president had said Thursday morning that the attack was “possibly” terror-related and added, “I know that everyone from the Federal Bureau of Investigation to local police are doing everything they can to find answers, tracking every lead, looking at every angle and I’m confident that they will determine what happened”. They’ve insulted Latinos, women, Muslims. She never mentioned her Democratic primary rivals by name, but exhorted the crowd to vote.
“Ninety Americans a day die from gun violence”, she said. Unlike during her 2008 presidential campaign, when Clinton shied away from focusing heavily on her gender, she often touts her potential to make history as the nation’s first female president on the campaign trail. “That’s why she made her first stop of this campaign in the Hawkeye State and why she continues to meet with Iowans in town halls, coffee shops, and living rooms to discuss her plan to build an America where everyone can get ahead”. “You know, Florida is so important”.
Still, Sanders has argued that while the unions’ corporate boards have voted to support Clinton, many individual members remain in his corner.
The candidate said her economic strategy would focus on improving public infrastructure, making college more affordable and investing in clean energy, among other proposals.
“Because I believe anyone who wants to be president should give attention to Puerto Rico and remind our fellow Americans that Puerto Ricans are American citizens”, Clinton told the crowd sprinkled with “Puerto Ricans for Hillary” and “Estoy contigo” (I am with you) placards.
Clinton scheduled five fundraisers in Florida on Tuesday and Wednesday in addition to her rally.
In the coming Democratic debates Mr. Sanders can make a more credible case than any other Democrat or Republican running for president that he is the most electable candidate, in either party, in the 2016 campaign. “Ted Cruz has supported legislation to do that and I really don’t understand it – Marco Rubio followed right along”. “Bernie is generating the kind of excitement and enthusiasm needed for Democrats to retain the White House and elect more Democrats in Congress and state capitals”.
