After Monaco pits foul-up, Ricciardo ready for Canadian GP
Lewis Hamilton had a great weekend in Monaco, after a barrage of problems and mistakes, he took home his fourth win on the track despite the treacherous conditions (albeit he may have had some help from Daniels failed pit stop).
This time Red Bull has emerged as the reigning champions’ closest challenger following two competitive races in Spain and Monaco, but it’s this weekend’s Canadian Grand Prix that promises to pose the real test of the team’s resurgence.
Ricciardo held a comfortable lead in Monaco when he went in for a tire change and his crew didn’t have the proper tires ready.
“I expected and prepared myself for some hard races after the awesome start to the season.” said Rosberg “This is where experience helps me”.
McLaren, meanwhile, had problems of a different nature, as Jenson Button was sidelined for much of the session, managing only eight laps in total – the final one of which was spent crawling back to the pits with a suspected temperature problem.
The 26-year-old has also finished fourth four times this term – in Australia, Bahrain, China and Spain – but there was a disappointing 11th in Russian Federation at the Sochi Autodrom.
Daniel Ricciardo’s relationship with Red Bull continues to become increasingly strained, with the Australian racer hinting he could leave the team.
Red Bull team principal Christian Horner has announced earlier this month after a thorough analysis has unfolded in response to a defeat that left within Red Bull “thoroughly deflated”.
“Of course there was a bit of criticism, but I think it’s good to share criticism”, Verstappen said.
“There are potholes we could easily manoeuvre but I’m equally conscious we could fall down them”.
From the tight confines of Monaco we arrive that the Circuit Gilles villeneuve, a series of high-speed straights punctuates by chicanes and hairpins, a circuits where grunt and brakes are vital.
Ricciardo scored his first victory in Formula One at the 4.36km road track on the Isle de Notre Dame in 2014, on his way to a third-place finish in the championship. Rosberg struggled to seventh in Monte Carlo but says he was prepared for challenging weekends and is interested to learn if Red Bull will provide another test in Canada.
“It’s unfortunate it happened back to back”, Ricciardo said.
Don’t forget to tune in to Live89.5 each and every Saturday from 9am to hear Box of Neutral talk all there is to talk about F1 and a whole lot more.
“But yeah, I’ve moved on”.
And Ricciardo, also denied victory at the Spanish Grand Prix after another strategical blunder by his team, emerged from the pits in second and unable to find a route past eventual victor Lewis Hamilton.
