After rout by Clemson, Miami fires coach Al Golden
ESPN reports that tight ends coach and run game coordinator Larry Scott will be the interim head coach after Golden was let go. “I simply believe that now is the time to bring the Hurricane Family together and rally behind our young men”.
In his fifth season at Miami, Golden had a 32-25 record after taking over a program under NCAA investigation.
This past weekend, the Miami Hurricanes were dismantled by the Clemson Tigers to the tune of a 58-0 shutout.
Fans had been flying banners attached to planes above Miami games throughout this season, imploring Miami to fire Golden. I’d encourage you to watch it because it speaks volumes about the culture and class of the Clemson football program.
First, there was Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, who, before going on to major success in the worlds of pro wrestling and cinema, was a defensive lineman on Miami’s 1991 national championship team.
No one saw this coming, but three undefeated teams from the American Athletic Conference are in the top 25, and all moved up this week. Memphis is No. 16, Houston is No. 19 and Temple is No. 22. “This is an awesome opportunity for each and every one of us”.

There will be other names added to the list, which could include Memphis head coach Justin Fuente among other mid-major head coaches that could add youthful exuberance to the stoic attitude down south. He led the ‘Canes to two bowl games, the 2013 Russell Athletic Bowl and 2014 Independence Bowl.
But Houston might have the best shot at an undefeated regular season.
O’Leary was 81-68 at UCF and 133-101 overall as a college coach. It was the first of seven bowl berths the under O’Leary. It was Clemson’s largest win over an FBS opponent since an 82-24 win over Wake Forest on October. 31, 1981.
“It makes sense to have someobody around there that knows the system, knows the tradition and knows how we kind of do things”, he said.

A brawl that cleared the East Mississippi Community College bench when it was ahead 48-0 has also barred the school from this year’s playoffs for community and junior colleges.
