After securing border, BSF wants to save environment too
The BSF figures in the Limca Book of Records by planting over 309,000 saplings in 30 minutes previous year.
Ideally, candies were exchanged between India and Pakistan across the Wagah-Attari worldwide border in Punjab. Pakistan had declared independence on August 14, 1947, while India had declared independence just a day later on August 15. The exchange of candies at borders has been a customary practice, but relations between the two countries have worsened this year due to frequent violations of a ceasefire line dividing the border between the two countries. Paliwal informed that extra deployment of the force has been done on the border.
“At all Frontiers Headquarters, Sector Headquarters, Training Institutions, Battalion Headquarters and all Border Outposts”, a senior BSF official said. “Tight vigil is being maintained day and night”.
There have been 19 ceasefire violations along the Indo-Pak border in the month of July alone in which four persons, including three troops, have been killed and 14 others injured.
Pakistan and Indian forces at the border usually exchange candies and pleasantries on national days such as Independence Day, Republic Day and significant religious holidays of both countries including Eid and Diwali.
This year, BSF has decided to not accept any such gifts to protest the series of militant attacks in Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir over the past month. In the wake of repeated ceasefire violations by Pakistani Rangers, India has warned Pakistan of “effective and forceful” response to unprovoked firing and cross-border terrorism.
