After testy VP debate, Trump rebuffs claim he ‘loves’ Putin
Mike Pence won big!” and “Mike Pence won big.
After Tuesday’s vice presidential debate, Pence was criticized for not fighting back against Tim Kaine’s attacks on Donald Trump’s record.
For his part, Trump tweeted out: “The constant interruptions last night by Tim Kaine should not have been allowed”.
According to the BBC, Pence’s goal was to reassure Republicans panicked by Trump’s debate performance last week and his bungling in the days that followed that cooler heads will prevail. Hillary Clinton has no public events until the debate.
Statistics from the Nielsen Company, which conducts the ratings, did not include Americans who watched the debate on the internet or on mobile devices.
The other clear victor of the evening was Donald Trump, the GOP declared. Her description of half of Trump’s supporters as belonging in “a basket of deplorables?”
“I say kiddingly, but I mean it: I don’t care how sick you are”, Trump said.
Instead, Pence flatly denied that Trump had said things he has in fact been captured saying on video or in print. “We’ll see. Maybe we’ll have a good relationship”, Trump said of his potential relationship with Putin, if he were to be elected on November 8. “And he responded and he responded about the same way every time which is I want to talk about something else”, Kaine said. “In general, I hear people will support Trump, but wish the ticket was reversed”. “What I can say is that, Donald Trump won the debate”. Following the debate’s conclusion, Pence was praised for how he conducted himself, providing a much needed change of pace for the struggling campaign.
Gwen Ecklund, Republican chairwoman in Crawford County, Iowa, said Republicans in this conservative western Iowa county have told her they’d like to see Pence at the top of the ticket.
“You guys love Russia”, Kaine said in Tuesday’s debate.
But Pence went too far in downplaying the severity of Trump’s original comment.
