AG: 10000 Arizona vehicles eligible for VW settlement
There are way more affected Volkswagen diesels in Europe than in the United States. VW also will buy out your lease if your vehicle was leased through Volkswagen Credit.
Elizabeth Cabraser, the lead attorney for consumers who sued the company, said that the judgment sent out a clear message to manufacturers in terms of their responsibilities to consumers. “This is meant to be a consumer-friendly, simple, expedited process”.
A US district judge in San Francisco will hold a hearing on July 26 to decide on whether to grant preliminary approval of the settlements.
As of now, Volkswagen has not deciphered a solution for reducing the diesel emissions of the faulty vehicles but in any case, it will pay between $5100 to $10000 to all the owners as the compensation, apart from the buyback.
The second part of the pact requires Volkswagen to pay 2.7 billion dollars to fund “green” projects across the country for reducing NOx emissions and to invest 2 billion dollars over 10 years “toward improving infrastructure, access and education to support and advance zero emission vehicles”.
The agreement provides partial settlement and consumer relief, as well as an environmental remediation plan, related to the 2.0 liter models.
The 2-liter diesel versions of the 2013 to 2015 VW Beetle, 2010 to 2015 VW Golf, 2009 to 2015 VW Jetta, 2012 to 2015 VW Passat and 2010 to 2013 and 2015 Audi A3.
Which cars aren’t covered? .
Lawyers are still working on settlements for another 80,000 vehicles with 3-liter diesel engines. Cabraser said these vehicles are mostly Audis and Porsches. Buybacks will begin this fall if the settlement is approved. After that, consumers will be able to file claims at the settlement website.
Question: What do I get? Individuals will get somewhere from $5,100 to $10,000 depending on their car’s model and year.
How much will VW pay to buy back my auto?
Because the resale values of Volkswagen diesels have fallen sharply since the start of the scandal, which was exposed by the Environmental Protection Agency on September 18, 2015. But some Arizona VW owners won’t see a penny. Consumers will also receive the cash compensation. Then they have to be tested and approved by government regulators. The buyback prices will range from $12,500 to $44,000.
Question: I’m just going to take the money and buy a new vehicle. But it appears from documents filed by the Justice Department and EPA that the technology might not be available to fix them.
