Agent confirms Seahawks star Marshawn Lynch plans to retire
Seattle Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch may have given indication he’s retiring. In his first half-season with the Seahawks before that playoff run, Lynch averaged just 3.5 yards per carry.
Among those who interpreted Lynch’s tweet – which came during the 4th quarter of yesterday’s Super Bowl – as a sign of his impending retirement were Seattle Seahawks teammates Russell Wilson, Richard Sherman, Bruce Irvin and Doug Baldwin, among many, many others.
Lynch hinted about retiring on Sunday, when he tweeted a picture of cleats hanging off a power line.
The agent for Seattle running back Marshawn Lynch has confirmed that his client intends to retire from football. He arrived in Seattle in 2010 and his attitude and bruising running became the foundation for two straight NFC championships and the franchise’s first Super Bowl title.
Lynch managed to go out on his own terms, bypassing the media and announcing he was walking away via his own Twitter account.
During his prime, No. 24 was so unabashedly fun to watch because you could tell by watching him that he was having the time of his life toting the rock into the hearts of opposing defenses. The run caused such an uproar among Seahawks’ fans that the movement from the stadium registered on a seismograph more than 100 yards from the stadium.
Lynch is apparently more than ready to step down, at least from a financial standpoint.
OK, here’s one throwback to Lynch’s days at Cal, which also serves as a fitting final image before Lynch rides off into the sunset. He’s second all-time in Seattle history in rushing touchdowns and fourth in yards rushing.
Finance, Lynch 29, has probably lived off his endorsements considering that he makes about $5 million a year through endorsement deals with Nike, Pepsi, Skittles, Progressive and Activision.
While those could be reasons for his possible retirement plans, even the Seahawks organization said that they are aware of the possible retirement plans of Lynch.
What can you say about the frugality of Marshawn Lynch? Following the Seahawks’ victory over the Cardinals on November 23, 2014, Lynch answered every post-game question with a single word: “Yeah”.
Lynch ranks second in team history in rushing touchdowns (57), third in total TDs (65) and seventh in points scored (392).
No one around the team believed Lynch will fulfill those two seasons.
“They should be jumping for joy to have a guy now playing that spot for the league minimum, ” Corry said of Rawls, who had 830 yards as a rookie in 2015 before suffering a broken left ankle (he is expected to recover in time for the season).
And yep – if you check the timestamp, he tweeted this out in the middle of the Super Bowl, because if there’s one thing Lynch hates, it’s people paying attention to him when he’s not on the football field.
