“Agents of SHIELD’s” Brett Dalton Calls Ward’s New Direction a “Blessing”
He has a gun pointed at him and tells him to lead the way to the portal.
We’re taking three months off for Agent Carter after tonight, potentially longer, and it’s at least worth re-stressing how well Season 3 has established itself up to this point.
It was shocking to see Coulson pause and take the time to kill Ward when the portal was already starting to close. I think that in a way that puts a finger on what our show is about – I would hate this job if you aren’t still a human with real feelings, and compassion, and love, but how can you have those things when the job is your priority?
More specifically, after a knock down, drag out fight, Ward found himself gasping for breath, lying on the ground. I like the foil that she was, kind of the flip side of the coin to Coulson.
The moment we saw the ruins of an ancient city, I got my hopes up we were looking at the barren world at the start of Guardians of the Galaxy. They’re going to find Fitz and Will. So Ward had no idea how to get there as well.
How will killing Ward affect Coulson going forward?
“Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” stars Clark Gregg as Director Phil Coulson, Ming-Na Wen as Agent Melinda May, Brett Dalton as Grant Ward, Chloe Bennet as Agent Daisy Johnson, Iain De Caestecker as Agent Leo Fitz, Elizabeth Henstridge as Agent Jemma Simmons, Nick Blood as Agent Lance Hunter, Adrianne Palicki as Agent Bobbi Morse, Henry Simmons as Agent Alphonso “Mack” Mackenzie and Luke Mitchell as Lincoln Campbell. That wasn’t the case, though. Did he leave a lasting impact as a character? “And I was a little sad, but at the same time, I also knew that I was still on the show!” He’s on the others’ trail and finds them in the midst of said sandstorm, killing off Ward’s goons and making Ward bleed. Does that mean I’m going away?
Coulson finally has Ward prone and helpless. Also, Simmons has informed everyone that the whole point of this mission is to bring death incarnate to earth, so there’s that. It was a great touch to see Fitz comforting Simmons when he returned, and it was great for Simmons to be so understanding that Fitz tried his best.
Paste: Viewers have just fallen in love with the chemistry between Rosalind and Coulson, but a lot of people first got to know you on Entourage, and also remember your chemistry with Jeremy Piven, or Ari Gold.
Meanwhile, back on Earth, It was nice to see Joey in the field with the rest of the group. “Fitz is just an offering to show him the door”. And then becoming director, he’s had to make decisions he’s not completely comfortable with.
I think people who’ve never spent time in Los Angeles would be surprised to know that from a 5 am arrival to a 6 or 7 pm departure, the temperature changes, during one day, from 34 degrees to the mid-80s.
Zimmer: I’m going to say, “no”.
Spoiler warning: Do not read on unless you’ve seen the “Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD” midseason finale, titled “Maveth”. So it’s actually a blessing to not know all that stuff.
See? She doesn’t even need Wil – oh … right. When Will was burnt it had to go, so it might be the same with Ward.
Anyway, you want to talk about the Thing? I guess we’ll find out next year! With all this going on – along with the previous episode’s cliffhanger of having Coulson briefly knocked unconscious – it should have been an exciting 40 minutes of Marvel television.
Initially, this half-season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. felt more consequential than the show had in the past. Sound off in the comments section below!
Every member of S.H.I.E.L.D. was front and center this week with some highlights, including the reluctant Inhuman Gutierrez using his melty powers in really cool ways during S.H.I.E.L.D.’s assault on HYDRA, some cool action sequences with Hunter and Morse, and some signature May ass kicking. He was angry about not being a success, and built his own HYDRA with one goal, to take down the daddy figure (that would be Coulson) who scolded him. They like each other, but it’s complicated. Because there’s not a lot of people out there who are completely unfiltered and honest, and say things as they are without people second-guessing them.
