Aguero and Sane move City third with win over Sunderland
The Premier League match between Manchester City and Sunderland will be broadcast live on NBCSN.
Sunday’s Premier League encounter between Sunderland and Manchester City is a game with big ramifications at both ends of the table.
Victory for City would cut the gap to leaders Chelsea to eight points but Guardiola is not thinking about a title charge.
“I think Pep Guardiola so far has not been a success”, he said.
“You have to judge us and our performances”.
“I think that the five or six teams that are on top of the league, everybody expects that they are going to win the games but football shows us here, in Barcelona, Germany, in my experience, everything can happen”. That is the way we’ve focussed on the on the last month or two months. They can only hope Guardiola fields a few fringe players given he has successive midweek games coming up against Stoke and Monaco.
Guardiola paid tribute to Aguero, whose future at the Etihad is in doubt.
I can say that because I was the manager of the best player in history [Lionel Messi]. Always composed on the ball, he dictated Man City’s play and supplied plenty of bullets for Sane and Sterling to fire. We have an exceptional relationship. At the moment we’re still gasping for air. His goals are so important. The Argentinian star has been in great form, netting braces in each of City’s last two games.
With no chance of Kirchoff or Rodwell coming back into the squad we can expect much the same midfield line up as we saw against Everton, and though it’s no secret that games like this are the flawless arena for those with heart and bite, we’ll likely be relying on experienced heads and composed performances from the younger breed. “Again, brilliant, really brilliant”.
The match ended without further incident, leaving Sunderland six points from safety, with Crystal Palace, Leicester City, and Swansea City all winning this weekend. “You could not question the attitude or energy of the players”.
Jermain Defoe hit the post from distance, Fabio Borini sending a header wide from the rebound while Billy Jones twice went close from corners in an impressive first-half display. At Everton we hit the bar. I don’t want to go down. This was one of the tough fixtures. “Man City have a busy programme and they have to come up here with a lot of other games on the horizon”, via BBC Sport. “The first months were very hard, but it is not easy for a young player in England to come here and play the way he’s playing”.
