Agut reaches final at Winston-Salem Open

Pablo Carreno Busta claimed his first ATP Tour title with a 6-7 7-6 6-4 win over fellow Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut in the final of the Winston-Salem Open.

Agut was trying to become the fifth player in Tour history to win three times in one season. “I got tight, which is a normal thing when trying to close out a match”.

The 25-year-old had two set points in a first-set tie-break, but failed to take advantage of either of them, with Bautista Agut winning four straight points to seize the advantage. “But I had confidence that I could recover after some really bad moments emotionally”.

“I’m disappointed in the loss but still proud of how I fought”, he said.

Top seed Agnieszka Radwanska put on a dominant performance against double defending champion Petra Kvitova to ease into the final of the Connecticut Open with a 6-1 6-1 triumph on Friday.
